A little black dress (LBD) is the one key piece in your closet you could actually wear on any occasion. It's easy to wear to work with black, suede pointed toe heels. During an afternoon shopping with flats and a pashmina shawl around your shoulders. While having drinks with your best friend on a Friday night, with colorful heels to give the dress some extra fun. Or on date night with sexy heels and some nice jewelry. It's doesn't matter what plans you have, the little black dress is always a good idea. That's why whenever I'm going on holiday, (or a city break), the LBD is one of the first things I pack.
So what makes a little black dress the perfect one for you? Make sure the fabric is not too tight around your waist (no one likes to look at those love handles), and the length is not too long. Because that can make you look like an old lady. But also not very short, as it may look cheap instead of classy. The next thing is to keep the dress very simple. So no sparkles, or leather details. Keep in mind that you still want to wear it in ten years from now, and that it has to look as classy then as is it today.
If you finally have found the perfect LBD (which isn't easy, and you'll probably keep looking for a better one over the next couple of years), it will always make you feel confident while wearing.
So when feeling nervous for a big presentation at work, having dinner with all your friends (and you're the only single one), or just having a bad day? Wear your little black dress and you already feel so much better. I promise.
Tip: there is absolutely no need to spend a fortune on the LBD. The most important thing when like for a dress in high street shops is the fabric. The fabric has to feel and look rich. My perfect little black dress is made from a heavy fabric, has the right length (to wear with heels and flats), and is not too tight around the waist.
Where I bought this key piece? Well, that was already many years ago at H&M in Amsterdam. And I still love it as much as the day I got my hands on this perfect little black dress.
